| | Programs and Students The students at Old Colony Montessori form a love for learning, which begins in the Children’s House classroom, and expands as they progress through elementary. All students at Old Colony Montessori work on projects that appeal to a very deep need in their development, therefore they are fulfilling goals that are personally valuable to them. Children explore their environment through independent work and free choice, while being guided and challenged by the teacher in their classroom.
Old Colony Montessori follows Dr. Maria Montessori's guidelines for the creation of beautiful and "prepared" classroom environments that inspire the child's natural tendency to work. The prepared environment takes children into the real world and is designed for a particular kind of work that matches the natural interests of the child at a particular stage of life and growth. Some common elements of any Montessori prepared environment are designed to assist, nurture and protect development, and to ensure that each child has the freedom to follow his or her natural course.

The Staff We are proud to have a staff that represents the energy and diversity displayed at Old Colony Montessori. Our teachers, certified by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), are facilitators in the classroom, guiding children through all areas of the prepared environment. They present a commitment to the Montessori Method by providing a challenging curriculum that is also supportive and nurturing. Teachers support their students, and are able to guide their interests by interacting with each child on an individual basis.
All members of the Old Colony Montessori staff—administrators, teachers and assistants—serve as role models for the children. Old Colony Montessori believes in modeling positive behaviors for children by being polite, respectful and kind.
