September 15, 2017 – Hingham, MA – Students at Hingham’s Old Colony Montessori School (OCMS) are sending encouragement and words of healing to children in Texas that have been overwhelmed and uprooted by the devastating affects of Hurricane Harvey.
Through the Montessori Administrators Association (www.montessoriadmins.org), OCMS will be making a financial donation and sending dozens of hand-made cards to other Montessori students in schools currently rebuilding their classrooms and campuses.
September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and OCMS is partnering with the Hingham Women's Club and Wahlburgers "Sipyard" at the Hingham Shipyard location, to support The Magical Moon Foundation. Join us on Wednesday, September 20th at 6:00pm and sample special event menu items made with organic produce harvested from the OCMS organic gardens.
Over 200 OCMS students, parents, alumni and community friends joined us on Saturday, September 9, 2017 for our OCMS Ribbon-Cutting Celebration and Outdoor Classroom Dedication. Marking the completion of the year-long Stronger Together Project, the Celebration included a touching dedication of the Outdoor Classroom "Tracy's Woods" to veteran OCMS teacher of 43 years, Tracy Stillman. The brand new Children's House sensorial playground was unveiled as 5 current and former OCMS Board Presidents cut the ribbon to open up the new playspace.
On Wednesday, June 7, 2017, OCMS Elementary students and their parents joined OCMS Organic Gardening teacher, Jon Belber of Holly Hill Farm, for a 5-course, organic, vegetarian meal at The Corner Stop Eatery in Cohasset, MA. Each family-style dish on the menu highlighted the organic ingredients grown and harvested in our very own OCMS organic gardens.
The OCMS Organic Gardening program, under the direction of Jon Belber and his team from Holly Hill Farm, is featured in the April edition of South Shore Living magazine. The editorial article highlights our commitment to providing students the opportunity to learn and grow "outside the books".
Old Colony Montessori School is the oldest Montessori institution south of Boston. Founded by a group of parents in 1963, OCMS was incorporated as a non-profit educational organization under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
