Allergy Awareness

Creating a Safe and Supportive Environment for All Children

Our staff and community understand the severity of food allergies and make every effort to ensure that OCMS is a safe and supportive place for children with food or other allergies.

Our allergy program includes avoidance strategies, emergency plans, and awareness among the staff, children, and community.

  • OCMS is a peanut-free and tree nut-free school.

  • All staff members are trained in recognition of allergic symptoms, EpiPen administration, and CPR.

  • OCMS works closely with families to develop allergy medical plans and has procedures in place for emergency situations.

Protecting children in the classroom.

All children wash their hands when they arrive at school in order to protect our students with life threatening allergies. Shared snacks in the classroom include only fruits and vegetables. There is a strict no sharing policy for lunch, and all lunches must be peanut-free and tree nut -free.

For in-school birthday celebrations, children enjoy popsicles and/or Jell-O made in a peanut-free, tree nut-free facility.
